Fraud on myspace

Someone has put a picture of my son on myspace and opened an account. They have said some very dangerous and horrible things about my son. I have contacted my space but I am still very worried and upset while I await a response. I would like to prosecute this person. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just had to deal with a very similar situation recently. MySpace officials very quickly removed the falsely created page. In this case the boy found out who created the page; one of his fellow students. The boy's parents chose not to file any criminal complaint and the situation quickly went away at school. A criminal complaint may be warranted in severe cases where physical threats are being made, but taking the material offline usually solves the problem. If you feel it is warranted, you can contact your local law enforcement agency. From past experience, the MySpace security unit will be most cooperative with a police investigation. One thing you might consider is that the person who did this may actually be a friend or acquaintance of your son. Hope this information is helpful.

I wouldn't be too worried about your son. Unless there is any proof that what this person is saying is true, then you probably don't have much to worry about. A girl at my school did the same thing to me last year. I was sixteen, so in the state I live in, I can be convicted for drug crimes. She created an account and put my yearbook picture up. The content of the page described my "fallow drug habits" and alleged promiscuous sexual activity with men twice my age. My school administration found out about it because the profile wasn't private and the principal called me in asking me about drug rehab! I was shocked! I had NO idea of what he was talking about. They did a drug test and eventually found out that I was innocent, and the girl got in trouble, but it still strikes me as terrifying that people can do that.

The point is. If your son hasn't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Trust me. The wrongdoer with get what's coming to him. Eventually

Send details to admin@blogsafety.com and we'll get them to the right person at MySpace. What you send to our email address will not be made public, but shared with the appropriate MySpace officials
