Pay for monitoring kids on web or volunteer todoit?

I am working on an article for Families Online Magazine and would appreciate hearing parents opinions about:

How much per month would you be willing to invest in a system designed to protect your children from Internet predators and from visiting harmful websites without directly interfering and without otherwise controlling their surfing capabilities?

Would you be interested in providing assistance in accomplishing this task in order to lower costs, or would you prefer to leave the protection to others and pay higher fees?

It is hypothetical, so if it could be done would you pay for it, not pay for it and it will be done

Well, if it isn't feasible (which it probably isn't) then that means that all you are doing is swindling people out of their money for a service that doesn't and probably never will exist.

Oh, P.S. I made that post from earlier my sig!

When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? Are they so spineless as to not be able to confront their kids and have a talk? Why is it that crooked politicians can manipulate fear to destroy our rights (patriot act) and ruin what separates this great country from the countless others that simply block people from things to teach them? How have we let this happen?

Well I am not a perent, but I think if I was I would prefer to do such a thing on my own insted of trusting someone else so if my vote counts it would be I would not pay for it

My object in preparing the article for our web site, at this point, is not to explore whether the idea is feasible or not, but rather would like you to assume that it is feasible and, as a parent, would you be willing to pay for it? If the answer is yes, how much is it worth to you, and would you be willing to provide assistance and perhaps pay a lower fee, or would you prefer to simply pay the full fee when it's established?

Your answers to the following questions would be appreciated:
1- Assuming the idea is feasible I would be
( ) Willing to pay
( ) Not willing to pay

2. If you answered "willing to pay," how much might that be
( ) $5 - $10 per month
( ) $11 - $20 per month
( ) $21 - $30 per month
( ) $31 - $40 per month
( ) More than $40 per month
( ) More than $100 per month

3. If you answered "willing to pay," would you
( ) Prefer to pay full fee when established and not participate by providing assistance
( ) Prefer to participate by providing assistance and also pay full fee so that adequate funds are available for the program
( ) Prefer to participate by providing assistance as a means of lowering your fee

Thanks!

Well to be honest anyone who knows what they are doing can get around something like that with ease, but I would say it is a good idea but imposable in practice, I mean anyone can lie on the net, how will you know all these people are safe to be monitering kids? also it would, as Liberty said, interfear with their surfing depending on the monitor. Also liberty most perants are too ignorant of technolagy to know how to perant a tech savy teen, like my mom knows nothing about comps and has made some bad mistakes with them, but also let's say my mom tries to take the comp from me I will disable her access because she does not know enough to understand what I do. It is sad and I am actualy wrighting a paper on computer ignorance because it is a huge problem. Liberty alot of your posts assume a perant knows about comps and the dangers.

I can't imagine that such a system could be invented - something that has enough artificial intelligence to filter what kids upload (predator protection) as well as download (porn protection) wherever they're connected on any device, while not interfering with whatever else they upload or download; and all this for all kids across the board, tailored to individual needs and maturity levels? Even if such technology or a tech/human hybrid existed, I wouldn't want to pay anything to have it babysit my kids because I don't think it would teach them critical thinking as well (that's taught by a team that includes themselves, their parents, and their teachers), and critical thinking is the best possible protection they could ever have, hands down - a protection that's getting increasingly valuable even as technology gets more sophisticated.

You can't do that without interfering with their surfing

The best option is to not filter or have someone else do it for you.
