Stop being confused by terms your kids use when they chat.

Hi,

I just wanted to let the parents here know about a new parenting resource online called Teen Chat Decoder.

It's a web site that let's parents quickly decode the meanings of all those confusing acronyms kids use online when they chat or use IM.

The data base is one of the most comprehensive "teen chat specific" acronym databases on the web and best of all it's free.

Yes, that's right, free. No strings attached.

If you're a parent that wants to know what your child is really saying online, please visit us and crack the hidden code your teens use online today.

Actully, we do have "noob" spelled both ways "noob" and "n00b", but you bring up a great point that I wanted to address.

I'll admit that we don't have every term that kids use, we're trying but it's a daunting task. Also, we're new and our online database is just a few months old.

We're adding about 2 dozen new terms every month and our DB currently has over 4,500 teen chat acronyms.

Also, please keep in mind that we focus on acronyms, not teen slang. Sure we have teen slang as well, but we really have focused so far on teen chat acronyms

Having said that, I'd welcome you all to visit us and help us build our database of acronyms so that you can help us help other parents stay current on what their teens are saying online.

Thanks so much for the great comments here on blogsafety. It's a wonderful resource :)

Ehh, well, 1337 is different everywhere. Different websites, different vernaculars. I've always known it as pawn. I know pwn being a misspelling of own is another reason it came about, though.

pwn also means pawn. xD I love talking about internet slang. And pwn'd or pwnd is pawned. Same meaning, I guess.

pwn means own, which is used when you beat someone in an online game (mainly counterstrike). And if you ever play that game, you will see that it is used extremely commonly.

I added a few but it needs some serious work, because I saw some I had never heard of so they are not used or obscurely used, but it lacked common ones like pwn

i look through it and as a teen i must say it isn't a very good database. it only has basic terms that only people with AIM or other types of messengers use. it should really add more words used by online gamers. i would love to help them compile there database but i don't have that kind of time.

They need to start adding text chat shortcuts.
