The requiring that an adult (18 or older) know a 14 or 15 year old's full name or email address in order to send a friend request is not a big change for MySpace. This protection is already available as an option in the "Privacy Settings" page of the "Account Settings."

The new change simply turns this protection on automatically if someone claiming to be 18 or older wants to send a friend request to someone who claims to be 14 or 15.

Our recommendation continues to be that any user who seeks greater security on MySpace.com, who's using the site for online contact with friends, should select the "Require email or last name to add me as a friend" option under "Privacy Settings" in the "Account Settings."

Then, no matter what age a person claims to be, they cannot send you a friend request without knowing the "real name" you entered into MySpace or the email address you use for logging into MySpace.
