Secure internet access for your child .

My husband and I are very busy in our respective professions. That leaves us with very little time for our adolescent twin daughters. Sometimes it so happens that we are even unable to meet on a certain day due to all our schedules. I want to install a safe internet connection at home, so that I can at least communicate with my daughters. At the same time I fear their exposure to vulgar and adult sites. Is there any such service provider?

There are internet services providers that offer options for secure connections. Talk with your provider and ask him about their offer.
If they can`t offer you what you need, i recommend you to use a monitoring software, first just to know what activities your daughters are having online.
If there are reasons to be concerned, you can use also filters based on what you`ve discovered. I am using Application Blocker Pro (http://www.applicationblocker.com) to monitor my sisters activity. It has also monitoring and filtering options. So far, everything was ok, no need to use the filtering option. But i am in `stand by`, beeing prepared if anything goes wrong :)

Good luck!

A friend of mine recently availed services of http://www.kidsemail.org for his eleven year old son. Kidsemail.com enables safe internet access for kids, without them stumbling upon forbidden sites with adult content. You can check out the site for details and all the features they are offering.

Good question, Joachimi. Unfortunately nothing can ever be 100% safe on the user-driven Web. (And what is safe really depends on the child's age, maturity level, etc.) That said, there are some good tools out there to assist parents of younger teens, including kid-oriented search engines and filtered ISPs. Check out “Tools for Families” on GetNetWise.org to learn more. Please let us know what you decide, and how it goes, OK? There are lots of parents facing the same dilemma.

Thanks,
Maureen
