Hi Woodstock, So glad you caught the Frontline show! I thought it was very well done. Was very gratifying to finally see a balanced look at the negatives and positives of teens’ social networking in the mainstream media.
I think you're right in wanting to keep your family computer(s) in a public room in order to keep an eye on your son’s online activities. But as you know from being around this forum, we advocate open communication as the No. 1 way for parents to keep kids safe online.
Take care,
Maureen

Maureen, I watched 'Growing Up Online', and I wasn't too surprized by it. Although it gave me more insight as to what to expect when my son does want a 'Myspace', of 'Facebook' account. Right now all I have to worry about are the games he wants to play online. And, that's okay with me. But, I know the times coming when he will ask for a 'Myspace' account. Heck, he already knows more about the computer than I do. And, the thing is I'm the one that put him on it at the age of 5. Because I knew then that it would be in every home, and school by the time he was in junior high. I wasn't ready for all the new tec., that was coming along with it. And, I certainly wasn't ready for all the new knowledge I would have to learn to keep up with it, and him. I feel like I have to go back to school just to keep up. My son and friends want me to get a new computer since mine is an older one. But, if I got another one my son would want this one. I like having this one in the living room where I can watch what he is on. I wouldn't want him to have one in his room. That would be too much access for him. Maybe I'm wrong, but what I just watched tells me I'm not. Thanks for turning me on to that program. I like learning. Oh and tell Ann she really looked good on that program. It's nice to put a face to a name.
