I'm so sick of this website, I'm sick of repeating myself over and over and over again. It just won't sink in to you people, will it? It's people like you that are ruining every tiny bit of kid's freedom (violent video games don't create crime). Unless I see anything as particularly ridiculous on thi site, I won't post here anymore.

Okay I just had to add to this one. As a second generation parent. It's not any easier the second time around. But, when my first son was a teen I only had to worry about drinking, drugs, sex, and fun stuff like that. And, since I had gone to woodstock, marched in "peace marches" with John Lennon, the march on Washington DC with Dr. Martin King Jr., and went to the Democratic convention in Chicago. Well, I kind of let my kids do some of thier own finding thier selfs with a little suppervision from thier "hippie" mom. But, with my 12yr old son I introduced him to the computer at the age of 4. I knew even then that it would be the future of the next generation. So, we sit and talk about all the different great and not so great features of the computer. We tend to keep things open and honest, but when I found a porn site he had opened on the computer. Well, then we had a face to face talk about why that was offensive to me. I explained to him I knew he was going through puverity, and it was a time of exploration, but there was better ways. So, those sites were blocked. He understood that. And, I allow him to express himself but I also tell him how I think. He thinks I'm smart, but then I've already done my homework, so I try to stay one step ahead of him. And, as far as how you feel about our country. My oldest son is being deployed for the third time to fight for your right to have the freedoms to go on all of these blogs and say anything you want to say! You may not agree with the war, I can't tell you that I do entirely, but I know that the men, and women that are fighting for our freedom to speak freely would diagree with you on how bad it is to be able to say what you want to say. So, when you call yourself, "Son of Liberty", remember who is fighting for your right to call yourself that too. Anyway, we parents can't be all bad, yours must have been pretty good. You seem to have turned out to be a really cool young man. Sometime I could see me having a great laugh with someone like you. Until then, have fun, be safe, and just live life one day at a time.

I have to say, being a teenager, myself is very hard when it comes to porn. Many sites might pop up, and being a christian, i try to read my Bible when i see it, but it seems very hard. I think that though my parents have told me what i can and can't do, i need an extra tool. And trust me, my dad is very protective of me and he would tell me 1,000 times not to do it if that's what it takes. I think online filtering helps. ~A concerned teenager trying to help

I was, so I stopped for a few days. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? Are they so spineless as to not be able to confront their kids and have a talk? Why is it that crooked politicians can manipulate fear to destroy our rights (patriot act) and ruin what separates this great country from the countless others that simply block people from things to teach them? How have we let this happen?

One more thing I have to say is this: In my line of work (being a teen) using parental control software is referred to as "stupid", "lazy parenting", "overprotective" and/or my personal favorite, "Letting the bad people win" I am anti-censorship, anti-spy, anti-patriot act, and pro-overprotectiveness not existing. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? What I like about all these discussions is the fact that teens & adults are raising questions, contesting popular belief, contesting stereotypical expectations, and again raising more questions. If there wasn't such a debate over safety, there wouldn't be attention about it... and when there isn't attention on something, it usually sails by unnoticed, allowing people to snuggle with comfort into assumptions and expectations. The thing is-- there shouldn't be assumptions or expectations with kids, teens, parents, or anyone else left in the world. People should always raise questions-- are parents coddling their children too much? Are kids REALLY practicing safe online tactics? Are kids expecting adults to keep them safe to the point of ignorance? Are adults expecting other adults to parent their children? The more questions we raise, the more opinions will be made, the more attention issues will garner. Look how strong and opinionated some of the returning posters are-- that's great. It means, all of their questioning and their ruminations are making an impact. Hopefully that impact will be seen in more places than here-- and others will be made aware of safety concerns, etc without an online overlord making laws and coddling children. So, please, do not get angry when people make comments-- raise better questions. Make people question themselves and their beliefs. It can only make conviction stronger, and arguments tighter, and continue putting a spot light on these topics. Woo hoo! izzy

They don't know what to say? How stupid is that? Try this on for size: "Don't talk to strangers online" But wait, there's more! "don't post personal info online" Bam! Now you don't have to be a Gestapo-esque cyber nazi. Seriously, come on people. Get real, the internet isn't a warzone crawling with baddies looking to get your kid. And they probably make violent video games because they are entertaining and fun. The same goes for movies. While I am on the topic of movies, let me tell you a story. My brother is 19, currently in college and I rarely see him. He spent the night at our house one weekend, and we went to see a movie. This movie is rated R and I consider myself mature enough to watch such a film (anyone over 10 is, give me a break). Being that he is over 17 we thought thst he could buy us both tickets and we'd have ourselves a merry night. But not if the movie nazis could help it! It turns out that you have to be 21 to buy 2 tickets. The only thing that this rule could ever suceed in is ruining what would've been a fun night. How stupid can the MPAA get? -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? Are they so spineless as to not be able to confront their kids and have a talk? Well I tried to read all this but there is so much. I am new to this site and have got amazing reactions. I am all for free speech and omg cenorship. Someone on the radio can say A$$ and some other artist cant anywho. Of what I see I completly agree with son of liberty I am 17 Keyloggers are considered spyware they really need a law against them they are extremly wrong even worse than the other random moniter software. I really know how to disable just about any of them if you asked me with in 10 minutes and you as a parent would never know. I could even fake it out if you like. This things are easy to get around why dont you get up CREATE YOUR OWN MYSPACE ACCOUNT have your friend be your kids friend learn the internet Detective Randy R. on this site said "Parents need to get as connected as young people." This montiering softwares are against EVERYTHING they are compltely wrong the one thing that I do accept from them is limiting internet at a certain time. So your child can still use the computer. OTHERWISE IT ALL COMPLETLY AND URDLY WRONG!!! I am glad son of liberty got on here to state his view and I am here now to hopefully help him. I wish I could PM him. O well. ~WRRY

I was wrong in what I said about masturbation in my first post on the grow up thread, but it was only in an effort to make these people not completely disregard all I had to say. I apologize. Anyway, If parents do their jobs, their kids shouldn't be so easily influenced by what they see. Most of the time they aren't anyway, and everytime you hear about some stupid moral crusade against porn or movies or video games you can bet that whoever started the thing really doesn't care at all about it's cause, but rather that greedy ******* just wants a peice of the lawsuit pie. I really need to stop thinking about things like that and enjoy my youth while I can, but with all this "parental control software" and "v-chip" stuff, youth just isn't as enjoyable as it once was. What next, are you people going to make your kids wear helmets and bubble-wrap suits just to walk down the street? Where will it end? Will it end when every possible freedom that this country stands for is gone, trashed just like the 4th amendment already is? The next to go will be the 1st amendment, with people too afraid of being locked up to speak their minds. Then the rest of the constitution will follow. You are all playing right into the hands of the terrorists and rapists and psychos because you are ruining everything that makes this country great. I'm sorry, I guess my lack of ignorance on certain issues has made me bitter beyond my years. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them?
