The Internet Safety Technical Task Force's long anticipated report was released today. (The Task Force was formed by an agreement between MySpace and 49 U.S. state attorneys general a year ago.)
Here are ConnectSafely co-directors (and Task Force members) Anne Collier and Larry Magid's analyses.
Some of the Task Force's key findings:
-Most kids are not in danger of being harmed by an adult predator they meet online.
-Not all kids face the same risk online. Minors who are most at risk in the offline world continue to be most at risk online.
-Age-verification technologies alone can't protect kids
-Most common risk kids face online is bullying
Other coverage:
"Technology alone can't protect kids online"
"Report calls online threats to children overblown"
"No easy answer for protecting kids online"
Tell us: What do you think about the Task Force's report?
Many thanks,
Maureen
