I have kids and have become alarmed from the things I have seen on my space and facebook. I did some research and found a new social website for kids that requires a school to verify the childs identification BEFORE they can become a member. What a concept. My kids will not encounter a 32 year old predator posing as a 16 year old. This website cost me absolutely nothing. I encourage every parent to check it out. safewave.org. Finally, I am not concerned with what my kids will be exposed to.

We are a new website with passionate members who are extremely concerned with the safety of their children. There has been no effort on our part to encourage our members to post comments . We misunderstood the request for direct contact from our staff .Let's all agree that the common interest here is finding the safest and best sites for children . Keep up the good work in that regard ! President Safewave, LLC

Both of my children are members of this website. My youngest (she is 11) LOVES all the games on it. I like the fact that they are educational and that she is learning something while she is having fun. Both of my girls are telling all of their friends how to get on so that they can all be a member of this site. I like the fact that this is a safe site and that I can feel comfortable knowing where my kids are on the net.

Welcome all, We're glad you're here, but these posts are starting to sound a bit too much like advertising. Did someone at iLand5 ring up their charter members and ask them to endorse the service in our forum? I hope not, because advertising of any kind is against this forum's Rules.
Thanks for your understanding,
Maureen

The internet is a two edge sword. Our kids need it, but it can be deadly. Thank God my son likes the games on iland5 b/c I know he's safe while he's there and I'm at work. This is a single working mom's saving grace! -- Edited by June at 07/26/2008 2:18 PM

This program does work. Iland 5 is age appropriate and content monitored. This site also sends a clear message of no bullying or harrassement allowed. With all of the cyber bullying and suicides, this is what America's kids need. I have no problem with my children being on Iland 5! I would think that every other parent would too.

I hope this program works TOO many children are at risk. An entire generation on the internet, bullies and predators are a real threat. I have friends who refuse to buy a computer because they do not want their children exposed to all that stuff. Jenjen

Maureen,
We appreciate your interest in how the iLAND5 verification process works, but to keep our
members as safe as possible, we do not want to publish this information where it can be
indexed by any search engine.
I can tell you that no school administrator we have spoken with so far has balked at the
concept or even flat our told us, "no." Once a school is ready to register, we at
SafeWave, verify that the school, and their moderator, is who they say they are. The
schools then verify that the students are who they say they are.
Parents who wish their children to register as members of iLAND5.com can find more
information at our Parent/School site, SafeWave.org. If any other ConnectSafely users
have further questions, please send them to info@safewave.org.

Hello Maureen. Thank you for the welcome. I forwarded your questions to Contact Us at Safewave. I am sure they can answer your questions. My 17 year old son says it is nice to be able to socialize on iland5 because he doesn't have to worry about about who he is talking to and there is no nudity. I know he has shown me a thing or two about the internet and I have become disgusted with people who just don't care about what kids see. Thank you for what you do.

Welcome Brenda, I noticed on the Safewave site that the "school representative notifies iLAND5 [the company that operates Safewave] they have received the signed contract." Did administrators at your child's school balk at participating in the process?
Also, I wonder how the company verifies the school representative's identity? Would love to hear from other Safewave users, or from a company rep...
Thanks for the post,
Maureen
