Ricky when he was sixteen met a girl in a Iowa teen club and she told him she was almost sixteen. They hooked up and had sex twice. After being questioned bypolice he was told she truly was only thirteen. Two weeks later on May 3, 2006 Ricky was arrested on two counts of sexual abuse third degree. It did not matter the girl told police she lied to ricky or it was consensual, no force or cohersion. Ricky was charged as a adult.
Now two years later Rickys life is he^^! He was sentenced almost two years ago to two years probation for sex offenders, told it be a deferred so no conviction but he had to register ten years and do sex therapy. We moved ricky home to Oklahoma to keep him safer amongst family and now due to three year age difference OK has made him a aggravated, life time offender under law. Unknownst to us when you move from state to state they change yur charge to meet the new states criteria.
I became aware of a Romeo/Juliet law from the Adam Walsh Act I am desperately trying to get states to enact, which will punish the boy/girl but will not require registration known as romeo and Juliet. See below:
Everytime we get a signature politicians in Oklahoma and Iowa get a notice we got another american who see's the miscarriage of justice for ricky and the hundreds of other teens I have found since I began my advocacy.
So if you feel this is a injustice please sign and forward and post to facebook, myspace, blogs, forums etc. help me spread the word and educate teens and parents who are unaware this is happening in this country. yes, we all hear of statutory rape but this is not the charge we see on the registry nor are we told it was consensual and even the girl lied in some cases.
I do not condone predators who victimize our children but these Romeo and Juliet cases are so vastly different lets treat them as the young love they are and we all have experienced as teens ourselves.

sex offense for the purposes of this title …
if the victim was at least 13 years old and the offender
was not more than 4 years older than the victim.”
