Hi All!
I am a library student (and a parent) and preparing a talk to give to the parents of middle schoolers for a class i am in.
If I may use this forum, I would like to ask users of this forum a few questions.
1. What was the most unexpected / shocking thing you or your children have found on a social internet site?
2. Have there been any benefits to you or your children using social internet sites?
3. What are your most age appropriate sites for middle schoolers?
4. Anything you would have liked to have known-posotive or negative-before your child signed up?
5. Do you use any sleuthing skills to check up on your kids, either with or without their knowledge?
any input to my research would be helpful, and thanks to all. this is a great site, I have been lurking here a few days and I am glad to see a resource like this available.

These are great questions - parents, please chime in!
Question 2 - about the benefits of social-networking sites - reminded me about a recent study on the subject. Among the upsides cited were "beneficial cognitive and psychosocial development"; global political and cultural awareness (because many social sites have international memberships); and "perspective-taking, argumentative, decision-making and critical thinking skills." Check out the article here. Might be an interesting side note to your stories from parents.
