son is down loading porno from google help

my 12yr old son down loaded pictures from google that were very inappropriate. I'm a single parent, who adopted him when he was 2. I went through puberty with my now 36yr old son. But, I didn't have the internet then. It was easier with him. He also was not Bipolar, and didn't have all the issues that this son is dealing with. My question is how do I put more parental sercurity on google than I have now. He is so intelligent that i don't want to take the computer away from him all together. The computer is in the living room were I am always in. But, I am disabled so at times I am not looking over his shoulder. I want to trust him, but I know that he is hitting puberty with a vengency. He doesn't have a father to talk to, and that makes it even harder for him. My oldest son is getting ready to leave for his 3rd deployment overseas. I really don't want to put pressure on him. He needs to spend time with his wife, and 6month old son. So, I'm reaching out to you guys. Anyone got any ideas? There's no where to go in Gettysburg. Trust me on that one.

Welcome Woodstock, On the Google homepage, click on “Preferences” near the search box and scroll down until you see “SafeSearch Filtering.” Click the circle next to “Use strict filtering,” which will filter explicit text and images. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Save preferences.” Saved preferences will stay that way, even after a computer’s turned off, unless someone resets them.

Maybe some fellow parents here can chime in with ideas for talking to your son about sex and his natural curiosity in wanting to view explicit images, though it isn’t the main focus of this forum about safety on the social Web. And - though I'm a parent - I'm no expert on talking to kids, but have always believed in the power of lots and lots of communication, no matter how difficult the subject is to discuss.

I also want to bring to your attention an article written by ConnectSafely co-founder Anne Collier called “Kids’ Exposure to Porn: New Findings,” which might help you better understand your son’s online behavior by looking at what’s happening among his peers. Click here for the article: http://www.connectsafely.org/articles--advice/articles-and-advice/kids-exposure-to-porn-new-findings.html

And parents, do please weigh in with your opinions, because who among us couldn't use some advice for raising a healthy and safe Web 2.0 kid?

Thanks and all the best,
