Teachers friending students

A school district in Florida is advising teachers not to "friend" students on social networking sites, claiming that teacher-student communication through this medium is "inappropriate." (Read the article here.)

What do you think of the policy?

I think this is very bogus. I remember in highschool I was friends with LOTS of teachers, not all of them were even MY teachers, they were just very awesome people. I believe a certain age group could make a difference...but I see no issue with being friends with a teacher on a social site, for example I am friends with four of my past teachers and I talk to them a lot..let them know whats going on, if trouble is brewing extra...
