Thoughts on Xivio.com

Topic Thoughts about Xivio.com - Recently my kids wanted to join a virtual world and to play with friends. I of course was skeptical but did sit and check out different sites with my kids. We settled on Xivio.com. They are kid oriented and have parental controls that I can adjust to each of my kids levels. My 14 year old is able to build a hompy, load music, videos, pictures, and journal type entries; while my 11 yearold is able to only view age appropriate items on his and other users hompys.
Having read the raving review from Izzy Neis, I was pressed to see more into this site.
She praises the saftey aspect of the site. And raves on uber safe moderators. (know in world as Guardians).

The hompy. As a Mom I have to praise here. All items are rated before others can view it. It's all based on the ratings system.
The hompy is very interactive. It combines features of facebook and the dreaded myspace.
As long as you as a parent have used the ratings system to set your own child's rating level then that's the level of shared and uploaded media that, your own child will view.
*Pictures - Many members choose (wisely) to use pictures they find online of likes and dislikes, others their pets.
*Videos - Again all rated with the ratings system. Before others can view it.
*Music - They can show off their favorite songs on their hompy.
*Buddy List - They can use the buddy list feature to block all others except those on their buddy list from viewing their hompy.

Xivio is one of the very few sites that I allow my children to use.

My daughter absolutely adores Xivio.com. Im rather fond of the interactive moderators, live events hosted by real people, and rules that are actually enforced.

The children can also use the report feature to contact support staff, and email their chat logs when another member has gotten out of line, is swearing, or breaking other rules.

I feel like the site sort of gears up my children up for social networking as they get older. Social networking, and using online is already an everyday thing.

It really is amazing at what the members on Xivio.com create using common objects found on the site in their personal rooms.

The ratings system is A HUGE PLUS!
As a parent, I keep my eyes on that! Way to go Xivio!

I have been a member of Xivio with my kids for about 3 months now. When I signed them up I did it and enacted their parental controls which are much like the tv rating system. Each of my kids has a different rating to what they may view. When it is not age appropriate it shows censored and if it's music they just can't hear it. They seem to have a live moderating system with guardians. When users are saying things or doing things they shouldn't they are warned and then if after that they don't change their behavior they are muted or taken from the site. I read the previous comments and I do not believe the guardians to be mean or bossy but I do find they have very little tollerance for those stepping out of the rules. Personally I find this a great site for my kid.
