Facebook threats

So I have received a threat from a girl I have never even met. Though I have met her cousin but have never hung out with him. They are both high school drop outs.

She tagged herself to a photo and when asked who she was she posted somethings that were ment as a joke but was called out on it for being rude and disrespectful from my sister. I laughed and untagged her.

She could no longer comment on the photo she tagged of herself(mind you we were not friends on facebook). Then sent to private messages to me one even stating that
I was fat, and I might call the cops if we fought at a fast food place right next to the school and because I would see my own blood everywhere. That I should also be careful. There was a lot more but that caught my eye was my own blood.

When I saw this I was on my phone and called my sister giving her my password to look at this. She shows my mother and my mother calls the school. The police man at the school was more worried about the fact I had my phone out, then the fact my life was at risk. When speaking to my mother again she had told me she was no longer talking slightly loud but full on yelling at this man and took everything she could to get him to at least hear me out. He did not take notes, print off the comments and messages. The only thing he took was the girls name and the cousins name on a note pad threw the whole thing.

we are still debating upon our next action to take...what would you guys do?

I do feel that I must now watch over my shoulder in fear of being attacked. That I dont know who to trust for my and the cousin shared a lot of friends but not sure who side they would be on when it came down, if something did happen

I have placed my facebook on lock down for myself. Telling my friends threw text that if they see anything happening on there and I have not sent a text out saying back to let me know. I have told them who to watch out for and if there is any hate and such let me know

Hello lilred and Maureen,

I am disappointed the school officer did not document any threats sent to you on your phone. Most school resource officers are not very busy, so I don't think that would be any excuse. Any crime reported to the officer should have been documented, either by him/her or another officer.

I agree with Maureen that you should contact your local police department, which would have jurisdiction over this matter. They may not send an officer to your home, but could possible take a report over the phone, or have you come to the police station to make a report.

I think it is extremely important for documentation of the threats by the P.D. Also, you should keep a written log of threats, including dates and times they are received.

I would not try to make excuses for the school officer. I am a retired cop and would just say this- most cops are conscientious and hard-chargers, and some (very few) are not so much. Any time you have to contact a Police Officer, and you are dissatisfied with your "police contact" for any reason, then ask to speak to either another officer or the first officer's supervisor... just a suggestion.

Welcome lilred, I'm so sorry to hear this is happening. Of course I don't know for sure, but I wonder if the school cop refused to get involved because the perpetrator wasn't a student and the issue happened off campus. Have you or your mom approached a regular police officer? I'd call the police department and ask to speak w/ an officer who handles threats of violence via electronic devices. Unfortunately how the police responds really depends on the laws in your area.
