Is It Still Dangerous?

Hi there you guys! Some of my leaders of my bands and honor guards advised me not to use any social networks or keep a public blog because of the dangers that people could try to attack my organization. I really enjoy social networking though, and having my own website that I'd be sad if I had to stop all together. Is it still dangerous if I have everything set to private and still keep a public website? I don't ever put any personal information on there. Should I still follow my commanders' advice and stop using this stuff all together? Thanks.

there are dangers. but the important thing is that you know how to safeguard you private interests against other people. you should be fine if did so. try talking to your commander and reason with him.

Personally I think it's not as dangerous as some people believe it to be...

That's a very good though. I have only one profile open, and it is on a military website now.

I think by having a lot of profiles and public blogs you do run a risk of having your organization or your person criticized. But you are also overlooking some good aspects.

I am 22 and when I consider buying from a company I often want to read the CEO's blog, see what their profiles are like on social networks etc. I am not sure what your company does, but if it is trying to appeal to 25 year olds and younger we like being able to see and communicate with the company on not such 'corporate levels'

Excuse me this really has nothing to do with his question. But, I was just wondering is Bigfishgames safe enough for 12, well 13yr old boys? He plays AdventureQuest right now. It's good enough for him. Is trying to get on SecondLife. I'm right over his shoulder making sure of the sites, and who is on them with him. So, just checking.

I too wish an answer to the "is it dangerous" question but as to your final inquiry; Ill be glad to refer my favorite and "only" game site I use.

bigfishgames.com provides both downloadable and internet play games. The internet play games are free to members. I've bought lots of stuff from them and never a problem with bad stuff.

They have excelent customer service and also offer the best prices (for downloadables) I could find; after a thorough search on the net for the best discounts.

Hi there you guys! Well, I have removed most social networking profiles except for facebook where I have set everything to private. I am still looking for an alternative to dangerous social networks. I have found our-social.com and troopspace.net which both seem safe, but can you guys think of any other safer ones for all ages? I am also looking for safe online games.

I just want to say that if you block people who ask for information that may seem dangerous in anyway block them! But, there are people, like myself, who are very proud of the men and women who are in any part of our military! Your commander is probably more worried about those who are enimies of the 'state'. So, I can't tell you what to do, but just don't go against an order of your commander. I know that could cost you your post. But, since they are just advising you, you have to do what your heart, & mind tells you to do. Now if you were in my son's Army's company they won't allow it. But, your not in the Army, so you have to do what you feel is good for you. And, your honor guard.

Well, on chat rooms and message boards, just because of what I do, I have been called a bugler for a military that murders civilians, I have been told to go kill myself, and I have also encountered people who wish my organization would burn in heck. I have also had people try to ask my location and my name.

HonorGuard --

I'm not sure what you mean by "attack my organization." There is certainly no risk of a physical attack. If you have a public blog that allows comments there is always the possibility that someone might say nasty things about your group but you can control that by keeping the blog or profile private or not allowing others to comment. Seems to me that you know what to do to protect yourself. I'm not sure what concern your "commanders" have -- perhaps you can get them to be more specific but in general most people using blogs and social networking sites have a pretty good experience.
