I know this has been an issue before, and am wondering if you can help me. My 20 yr old cousin initially had her bebo page hijacked by a friend, who changed the password and wrote terrible things all over the page. It was reported and the page shut down. A new page was then created by someone in my cousins name, with a page skin that said 17 weeks pregnant, and pictures of my cousin and her boyfriend, copied from the original page. Again, my cousin reported it, as well as contacting the police, because the content on the new page was extremely defamatory. The page appears to have been deleted, and another one created in its place just last night, with more pictures taken from a friends page as well as the original pictures. And explicit and defamatory contents all over the page. They are fairly sure who is doing this, and want to take it further. But Bebo's policy is not to inform a person of the actions they are taking to deal with a reported page. My aunt and husband want the IP address of the person identified, and to take it further, but to do so, they need a warrant from the police, who are very reluctant to get involved, although they have confirmed that it is against the law and an offence punishable by prosecution. Has anyone any advice about how to deal with this, as they feel even if the culprit is banned from Bebo, they will continue on MySpace, Facebook etc. Plus they are complete technophobes so thats why I've been drafted! Thanks in advance.

I must say we had the same issue on Bebo, where an adult user, on their own profile started to harass our fmaily and our daughter of 14. They used our photos, wrote the most disgusting things on their page about us and then started to harass my daughters friends by bombarding them with friend requests and emails. We made her page private and reported it to bebo, however making a page private does not stop the friend requests, we kept getting them so we had to see this person each time we logged in. We were very dissappointed with Bebo as dispite us reporting this Adult (we knew who they were) - they did nothing but remove the obscene writing on the users profile. That did not stop this person, they just kept posting and we kept reporting - this person was posting our address, phone numbers and private information along with utter nonsense about us on their page, posting this information as blogs etc for everyone to view!! Bebo could blatently see it was harassment - however instead of deleting the user, they only kept removing the content. We ended up reporting this user in excess of 12 times over two weeks - Bebo some times took up to 3 days to remove our personal information! It was only after we got the police involved ourselves and informed Bebo we had done so - this was when the Adult profile was deleted. We had deleted our profiles before Bebo decided to remove the person harassing us! Despite us removing our information the harassment continued until Bebo removed the profile entirely. It took a whole month of harassment before Bebo acted - so I agree with the last post - unless you deal with this yourself, the SNS's wont take it seriously. Its all numbers to them, nothing more. We now have a restraining order against this person and Bebo has lost a genuine family who wanted to use their site for good use.

Welcome Firefly, Unfortunately your cousin has discovered that a profile deletion doesn’t always mean an end to the harassment. She should probably talk to a lawyer about getting a restraining order. All the best, Maureen ~ Maureen Kochan ConnectSafely forum manager
