I have only just found out about Bebo sites and just wondered whether there are rules against coping peoples photos onto your own site. Thanks

Hello, Anne if it is all right with you, I am going to add 1 or 2 things to this. Guys I keep my eye on as many of these blog communities as I can. But I have to tell you that I really do not keep up with bebo. I guess I should, as it is getting more and more popular. I took the liberty of reading their “Terms of use”, along with their privacy policy. Now I must say that I really do not fully understand the question. It did not speak of a particular type of picture or what the picture was of. But here is what I have been able to determine. According to their terms of use. The only types of content that you can’t use are copyright protected material. But there is a very small clause in their terms of use that may be in your favor. You really have to read closely to find it but here it is in the exact words listed in the terms of use. “Use other Members' personal data for purposes other than establishing contact that is reasonably expected to be welcomed by such other Members”. Now I am not an attorney, but I am a Criminal justice major and was a Police Officer for many years, one of my last assignments was dealing with the up and coming Internet problems. And what that statement says to me is simply this. If the content, or picture in this case is yours (if it is yours we are talking about) and on your blog space or profile. Then from what that statement says, if this picture was in another person’s area (profile, blog, Ect.) then it can only be used as a means of contacting the person that it belongs to. Here is another one that may help. Again this is in the exact words as listed in the terms of use. “Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others”. Here again to me that says that if a person is using another persons picture then they have violated the terms of use. Now I do have to explain to anyone that uses any type of public blog area, MySpace, Hi5, and Bebo, all of them that I have read so far. They all say in their terms of use policies that it is up to them to decide if the content is appropriate and or legal. If you have a problem with a security issue, or a question about content or security here is a link to the contact us area of Bebo. Bebo contact us http://www.bebo.com/ContactUs.jsp Just explain you question or concern to them. I hope that this helps in some small way. Just a hint, in my own blog areas I always place a copyright protected symbol on the content that I do not want others to be able to use. But you have to know a little about HTML and CSS scripting to be able to place them in the correct places. Best of luck to you. Terry

I kind of doubt it, Suzy81, because I have not heard of any social-networking sites having that rule, but you can check for it in Bebo's Terms of Use, which are all the rules they enforce (all responsible social sites have such Terms). Let us know what you think of them. All best,
Anne
