Myspace Issue: Imposter profile.

I work in a retail stores and I came across what seemed to be a profile that one of my co-workers/friends had. It didn't have much, it looked like someone started the profile and didn't finish. It had her name, age and where she lived. I saw her a few days later and told her about the profile and she said that she did not make it. She is pretty upset that someone set up a fake account to try to pretend to be her. She asked me to help in removing it. I tried contacting Customer Service about 5 times and have not recieved a reponse and the profile is still up. I contacted the owner of Myspace, Tom, and he isn't doing anything about the profile that isn't hers. This is a safety issue and we would like this matter resolved as soon as possible. The profile is here: myspace.com/123625774.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi BlogSafety,

I have been dealing with the same issues on MySpace. Someone has created an imposter profile on MySpace of myself using pictures of myself, my name, address, pictures of my friends and family, and alleged information used to either humilate or harrass me. I have e-mailed MySpace's Imposter Report e-mail with a salute nearly about a week ago and there still is no response or actions being taken.

The imposter profile address is: http://www.myspace.com/200278149.

Please help me get rid of this page, it really compromises the safety and security of myself and others!

Today I reported again a pageto MySpace throught their web abuse service, 'cos I haven't copyright problem (Thanks God!) with this page, anyway, I think I must just is to act in good conscience, looking at what's happening with blogs in general, and overall with a gigant as MySpace; I understand that they cannot control everything, every new page, every new photo,... but finally we are the internet users who must control this intolerance and sadism, for protect the eyes and mind of our children, or ourselves, most time.
Thanks for your support,

We certainly appreciate your interest in reducing children's exposure to images of weapons and violence, Anna. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this one. All best,
Anne

Hello, I confirm that the last page I reported was deleted, but I had not news about it until today early morning by MySpace, that's in my mail system. My intentions were not only just to keep my copyright again, I wanted to condemn an evidence of abuse of chindren, an absurd violence propaganda. If I was too much strict to indicate this kind of pages in this blog, I must apologize about. Anyway I think that I did the right thing. Your, honestly, Anna Velasco.

You're welcome, Anna, but to give credit where it's due, the imposter profile was taken down by the time I contacted MySpace. If you had just waited one more day.... Anyway, again I don't know what they'll do, but I've passed this latest report along. All best,
Anne

Hi,
I am sorry that you have the same problem again. Anne has been very busy as of late. But I am sure once she does get a chance to read your post she will again forward it to her contact at MySpace. I did want to remind you that if you do hold copy writes to any of the material on that page you can turn the matter over to an attorney who can in turn sue the parties that have infringed on your material. I know that is pain to go through having to do all of that, but it would stop the people that are posting this. I did forward your problem to the link on MySpace for music problems, but the people that Anne forwards problems to gets results much faster than anything I have or could do. Good luck, and I am sorry for the problems you have with this. MySpace has its share of really bad people just like everywhere else in the world.
Best of luck,
Terry L. White

To the attention and gratefulness of BlogSafety.com and specially to Anne Collier;
I must communicate my thanks for your inestimable support and great help to solve my problem, because finally MySpace.com answered me and confirmed about my problem with this profile was finally solved. Anyway, I must fight against MySpace.com for report a one more abuse in the following profile:

http://www.myspace.com/worldwidecartel
corresponding to ID=102205840

where now are published images and false information on my artistic name "Anna Velasco", and
being shown in this page with supposed Colombian narco mafias, besides being publicized and openly firearms in hands of minors and children.
In this way, I request for eliminate this page as soon as possible,
and punish with rigor whatever kind of abuse with minors as you can see at this profile.
Gratefully,
again,
Anna Velasco.

Re: Myspace Issue: Imposter profile.

Hello friends of this blog, my name is Anna Velasco, I am a professional singer and I have my own web site at (www.annavelasco.com), and I discovered some weeks ago, with surprise, that someone published my name, photos and some of my songs and is requesting for money through a page in myspace.com (http://myspace/annavelasco). At first I write to their web page service, and I received an answer from es-imposterreport@support.myspace.com, they wanted a photo of me with and a banner of my ID at myspace.com . So I did and send it, and after serveral days I got an answer, about I must send another photo to another mail: customercare@myspace.com. My impression was about they absolutely don't care or saw my photo or the information I sent them: full name, telephone number, passport number, mail, new ID... So I write again them about the "myspace/annavelasco" profile at their pages is a total and absolute fraud and calumny on my name, and everything without my explicit consent. And I requested them for to eliminate that profile and page as soon as possible. In this way, I receive, in few hours, a new answer, about I must send them again a photo with some strange specification, but now without any mail or address to send, so I supposed I must answer to them to the same e-mail I received. I did it again, carefully, EVERTHING they requested to me, and the result was: no answer, no mail, no phone, no change, NOTHING. I have an industrial copyright over my artisctic name, and I will directly demand to myspace.com by support of evident fraud.

I guest most internet users with this kind of problem, to legaly demand by court to MySpace.com, because until today there isn't another way to be responded with respect and honestly. If someone knows a better way, please, contact with me.
Thanks. Anna Velasco.

Anne I am going to add a little note here if that is all right with you.
Guys there are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind if some one is using you personal information on MySpace or any other blog or area of the net for that matter. There is 2 ways that I know of that some one could get that information. 1st it could be some one that you know that already would know where you live who you are, things like that. So always be aware of that. 2nd You must use some type of anti-spy ware software. You could have picked some type of mail ware, which attaches itself to you Internet explorer and keeps track of where you go on the net. And many of these types of spy ware can also log your personal information. I run a spy ware scan everyday. It only takes a few minutes. But it can save you a ton of problems. You can obtain the same version that I use for free. It is called Ad-Aware SE personal. Just do a Google search for that title and you will find many places that you can download the program for free. I recommended somewhere like C-Net, or PC World, as they have very safe download areas. Just remember if a person knows enough about you to pretend to be you, that information had to come from somewhere. You may also want to check you credit report. Because if they have enough information they can cause you credit issues as well. The bottom line is guys we are all responsible for keeping our personal information as private as possible. Good luck.

Gloria, you may not have seen my post about being sure you use the right address at MySpace. Pls let me know if you've already sent your abuse report to imposterreport@myspace.com and given them at least a couple of days to respond. If you have, to no avail, I will pass your info along to our contact. Thanks,
Anne
