I work in a retail stores and I came across what seemed to be a profile that one of my co-workers/friends had. It didn't have much, it looked like someone started the profile and didn't finish. It had her name, age and where she lived. I saw her a few days later and told her about the profile and she said that she did not make it. She is pretty upset that someone set up a fake account to try to pretend to be her. She asked me to help in removing it. I tried contacting Customer Service about 5 times and have not recieved a reponse and the profile is still up. I contacted the owner of Myspace, Tom, and he isn't doing anything about the profile that isn't hers. This is a safety issue and we would like this matter resolved as soon as possible. Someone has also made an impostor profile of me and I have been trying to get in touch with myspace about this issue since about 10:00 last night. it's humiliating me and i am desperate for it to be removed. I have reported every stolen pic and the whole thing a number of times. Still it seems nothing has happened. i can't help but wonder how long does it take for something like this to be removed.

Be sure to email the correct address at MySpace when reporting this kind of abuse:
imposterreport@myspace.com
You need to do that first before we can possibly be of any help. Please know that MySpace gets lots of these abuse reports and then has to check out each one for legitimacy. They are required by US law to protect the privacy and free speech of users and often encounter "he said, she said" situations (regardless of gender) where both parties are claiming to have a legitimate complaint. It's pretty messy and complicated, so it often takes times. Their process has to precede anything we can do. Thanks for participating in the forum,

I too have had an imposter profile created. I have reported it to Myspace at least 4 times now over the course of 5 days and have had no response. I even have sent the salute picture that it says to do. This is very frustrating because it's a private profile so I have no idea what it says on the profile. Any help would be great. hi im a parent of 3 girls. one of my girls is now in grade 10 and has a myspace account which im fine with but there is this imposter account about her of when she was in grade 8 which has some very embarrasing stuff about her. People have been bullying her about it which is made her depressed. Welcome mic, I'm no lawyer but there's probably not much the police can do unless the person is threatening physical harm. If he or she is doing so, you could file a police report and let law enforcement take it from there. Some people have brought lawsuits against the creators of fake profiles for libelous comments, but that’s been pretty rare.

I’m glad to hear the profile was deleted. The best way that I'm aware of to prevent something like this from happening again is to get a restraining order against the perpetrator. As in the offline world, this legal instrument is often the most effective way to get some people to act responsibly.

Hi all!
I completely relate to this issue! A person I know has created a false profile of me usning indecent pictures and false information to try and destroy my professional reputation..I wrote to Myspace and noone has replied, the account has been deleted i think by the person herself but I am still waiting for Myspace to reply to me. As a result I also cancelled my own account as I don't trust this anymore.
My question is , how do I prevent this from happening again??
And secondly, can I sue the person that did this to me as I know who it is?

I, too, have been a victim of a vicious imposter profile on myspace. It states false, nasty, and cruel information about me and is just down right awful I have reported this to myspace 5 times and have had the people who have rec'd friend requests from this idiot report it also when they click on it. To no avail, nothing has been done. The profile has done a number on my engagement to my fiance, my reputation, and my relationship with my parents and friends. I have sent them a salute twice. Since the arrival of this imposter page, I have made all of the pictures on my legitimate myspace page private but who's to say that one of my "friends" isn't responsible foe this. I really need help and my future marriage is on the rocks.....

Social networking sites can’t police individual pages, so they depend on people to report problems. You didn’t mention if you submitted an imposter report to Bebo. (If not, do so by clicking on “Report Abuse” on the imposter page.)
Give Bebo a couple days to respond. If you still haven’t heard anything by next week, I will pass your message on to our contact there.
