Ok I've been doing a lot of research on myspace and the problems on it (considering the recent events happening to my cousin). And I have found another HUGE issue that is happening on myspace Currently there are probably hundres of fake profile accounts setup by porn advertises sending message and friend invites to other members of myspace. Where this comes to be a huge problem is that they are also sending them to underaged kids Here are a few example profiles URLs DELETED BY BLOGSAFETY ADMIN BECAUSE THEY LINKED TO INAPPROPRIATE SITES. As you can see some people on their friends and comments list are underaged. And this is only a few out of tons i've found already. I need your help in bringing this to the attention of myspace. From much experience myspace lies about deleting minors. If you see a minor that is lying about there age. If you report this minor to myspace they will not remove the profile unless the profile states the real age of the user. So if someone underage states that they are older and does not state there real age in the profile, myspace will not remove the profile. I have reported many such profiles. I have kept track of these profiles. Sometimes I receive an email thanking me for reporting the profile but when I go back to the profile it is still there. I have also tried to report profiles that are links to porn sites. If you report such profiles to myspace they will not remove the profile and they will send you a notice from myspace that the profile has been removed when if fact they do not remove the porn related profile. This has happened to MANY times for some time now. Sometimes I think Myspace is behind some of these profiles just to make some extra money. I worry for my kids and everyone else’s kids. I wish parents would get together and demand myspace to do a better job at policing their site. -- Edited by Random at 04/06/2007 9:57 PM

::SIGH:: Sometimes it seems the myspace CSR's don't even read the emails before replying and saying they do not find anything that violates TOS or offensive on the profiles.... I wrote that they are sending and posting ads and saying who knows what to anyone on their friends list (including minors) and they reply "We have no way to prove the user of the profile reported is a minor" ... Considering how long it takes for them to even get to the email it's discouraging. But i'll keep sending them until they are gone. Any luck from yourside Anne?

Okami, I'm honestly surprised they haven't been deleted, but I don't know the constraints and nos. of complaints they're dealing with. With 100 million+ registered users, they probably have a few requests in the queue. All I can suggest is that you email me the URLs of the profiles again, and I'll pass them along. I do know that a mom emailed me recently after not getting her son's profile deleted in a few days, and during the 24 hours it took us to have our email conversation (before I could pass her info along), the page was deleted. So I know they're responding. Thanks for staying on top of it,
Anne

Hello Anne, it's been a few weeks since we both sent our complaints to myspace about the advertising and all of those profiles are still up and sending messages to people and adding advertisement banners for their sex sites on anyone they can get to add them as friends. What can we do now if they are obviously not caring about this?

Anne thanks again for the help. Can I pass along the rest of the profiles like that one I found to you? I did send an email to myspace myself. But I think it would help to have more than one email. Thanks alot. It's really disturbing that these fake profiles just mass message so many people including underaged ones

I've passed your message along to MySpace, as you can too - via customercare@myspace.com. You can also click on "Report this image" next to photos. This type of "neightborhood watch" policing can be helpful to MySpace.
The company says it deletes every photo that violates its Terms of Use, which can be helpful for all MySpace monitors to read. The Terms are long, but most relevant to this discussion are the 15 types of content considered in violation, including that which "exploits people in a sexual or violent manner; contains nudity, violence, or offensive subject matter or contains a link to an adult website" and above that MySpace's prohibition of "any photographs containing nudity, or obscene, lewd, excessively violent, harassing, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable subject matter" (impersonation, another hot topic in this forum, is another clear violation of the Terms).
MySpace says it gets 3.5 million images uploaded daily - in addition to images in other sites that people link to from their profiles. It says it reviews every one and that, if they violate its terms, they're deleted within hours of being detected or reported. It doesn't review images in advance of posting, but it does review all videos before they appear on the pages of people who upload them - a policy YouTube, Google Video, and other video-hosting sites may at some point have to implement.
For some reason, our forum hosting service isn't allowing me to edit the URLs out of your post, so I'm going to have to delete your post because those URLs do lead to some content that's not in keeping with this family forum. Thanks for your post, though.
