Does anyone know how to report a registered sex offender that has an account on myspace and get them removed?

Welcome Lori1993, What do you mean by 'love'? Are you referring to an old post? Would be helpful to know. Thanks, Maureen ~ Maureen Kochan ConnectSafely community manager

Dang, what's with all the love for sex offenders? You must not be aware of what they are capable of.

But that's not a reason to deny him the website's service. And thank you for the information! I guess if he did get a myspace, people'd just have to keep a closer eye on him. -- Watch, watch me disappearing completely/In the dream of destruction and rebirth, this poem will be sung/In this fragmented sky, aaah, dozing, you had searched for the feeling that was wished for. He actually had the porn, was convicted and spent time in prison for it. While out on parole he commited fraud, violating his parole, and was put back in prison. He has also committed insurance fraud and forgery. Currently he is in the business of copyright infringement (hence my username) against a dozen or more individuals, more fraud, extortion and various other illegalities. I agree that the Internet is not a kid-only haven in a legal or literal sense but the younger generation does tend to be more active on the net.

It's not a 'kid-only haven' like a school is. Although it's a mostly-kid website, adults are on there too. So there's really no reason the aforementioned person shouldn't be allowed on it as long as they do nothing wrong. The child porn conviction... that person had child porn? Or were they assumed to? It really doesn't make a difference to my argument, but i'm just curious. -- Watch, watch me disappearing completely/In the dream of destruction and rebirth, this poem will be sung/In this fragmented sky, aaah, dozing, you had searched for the feeling that was wished for. Thank you Anne! In answer to the person who questioned why they would be removed, it is for the same reason registered sex offenders are not allowed near schools. There are a lot of children in both places. Oh, I forgot to mention...this persons account was shut off previously because of the child pornography conviction. -- Edited by copyright_help at 10/24/2006 2:56 PM

In answer to "copyright_help's" question, MySpace tells us that the best way to report a registered sex offender is to send an email to customercare@myspace.com. Include a link to the user’s MySpace profile and as much identification information as possible so they can research the individual using the person's state online sex registry. Full name, zip code, state, city, county are all helpful info. Of course it'd also be helpful if the info included a direct link to the individual’s info on a government registry Web site, or - if all else fails - a link to a news item mentioning the individual and his or her arrest. MySpace also strongly emphasizes that if the person doing the reporting feels a crime is being or might be committed s/he should also talk to their local police department. Hope that helps,
Anne

This is a very interesting topic but I'm not sure what the law is on it. It may vary by state. We are looking into the question. A registered sex offender has some rights but they can also have some restrictions when it comes to contacting and being around children. The majority of Myspace users are adults (i believe that 52% are 35 or older) so a registered sex offender could certainly make the case that they are on MySpace only to communicate with adults which, in itself, would probably be permissible. Again, I don't know the legal situation on this but I will look into it. Larry -- Larry Co-director BlogSafety.com

Well I think someone needs to read the myspace terms of use if it does not state sex offenders are not allowed use then it is perfectly fine for him/her to have it. -- -Rasma

> Does anyone know how to report a registered sex > offender that has an account on myspace and get them > removed? Why would they be removed? They are registered, meaning that they can totally be on myspace, and people will be aware of their legal status. As long as they don't do anything illegal nothing has been done wrong. -- Watch, watch me disappearing completely/In the dream of destruction and rebirth, this poem will be sung/In this fragmented sky, aaah, dozing, you had searched for the feeling that was wished for.
