Same problem...different URL

Used to be http://www.myspace.com/jeanettecowell

It had been deleted and I thought my *problem* was over....but when I got back online, I saw it wasn't.

:(

Have been offline because I moved. Have even lost the hostile and accusatory messages that this user sent me. I don't believe she has the same e-mail but if I did there would be NO point in corresponding with her anyway.

I just don't want THIS issue hanging over me like a dark cloud anymore.

Thanks

Like I have said before, that is hard to do when I have a personal handwritten letter from someone that mentions her (say "Hi" to Jeanette for me) of which I assume she still has a copy. It's hard to act like someone doesn't exist after that. What am I supposed to do? Throw a letter away that means a great deal because an hateful vindictive person is attached to it?

Well, I hope the other user I reported can be removed because I really do feel I have an enemy and I don't know what she is capable of saying to others about me.

Hi, Canwill, No, blocking won't change how the person feels, but at least they can't contact you. I know it hurts when people say hurtful things, but just like in the real world, the social Web is a place where we can't control what people think or say about us. I'd reach back to those lessons learned in middle school. Ignore him or her, and you'll get the satisfaction of knowing you robbed the bully of the reaction s/he seeks.

If the persons in question already intensely dislike you, I don't think blocking them will matter. Seems like useless advice to me. I did get a message from someone whom I asked for help with her...but they seemed to be on HER side. That's why with her there, I sort of feel outnumbered....

No, neither of them are fakes...but I got one I reported from before that came back...and was threatened by the other person. I wish I had not lost the messages that http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=374055765 sent me but when my computer crashed, it couldn't be helped. But since my problem with her still exists, I didn't think I had to repeat myself.

Was told this profile was scheduled to be removed as well...but it still hasn't

Canwill, Our contact at MySpace says the profiles you reported don’t look like fakes. Are the profiles’ owner(s) harassing you with messages or some other contact? If so, click the Block User link under the profiles’ main picture to prevent the owner from contacting you.

Take care,
Maureen

Have now become physically sick over this...but MySpace doesn't seem to care.

Just can't take it anymore, they make this too hard!

Canwill, Unfortunately, it's difficult to stop a determined harasser short of getting a restraining order. And while most social-networking sites delete imposter profiles, they also have to protect people's right of free speech, which "complicates" things further. They can't simply delete a profile if someone complains about it. The person has to prove he or she is the person being victimized, show how she's being harassed and show how the site's terms of service are being violated. Otherwise, so often, as they say in civil courts, it's very often a he said, she said situation - hard to know who's in the wrong.

That said, keep reporting the fake profiles to imposterreport@support.myspace.com, and submit a salute (if you haven't already) to verify your real account. Include your real profile ID in future imposter reports so MySpace can compare and view the real profile alongside the fake one.

Here are MySpace's instructions for submitting a salute:

1. Create a handwritten sign with the word MySpace.com on it. Please also include your Friend ID number (Your friend ID is the number between "ID=" and "&mytoken", in your profile's web address/URL). If you do not have a MySpace profile/account, please include the email address that you will be sending your response from.

2. Have a digital image or picture taken of you holding the handwritten sign. Please be sure the photo is clear and the handwriting is easy to read. (If you do not have access to a digital camera, please consider the accessibility of disposable cameras and digital film processing available at most drug stores)

3. Next, reply to this email with the salute as an attachment or provide us with the web address/URL where the image has been uploaded. Please note, salutes CANNOT be hosted on a MySpace profile.

4. If we are verifying your identity because someone has created an imposter profile of you, please provide both the imposter profile friend ID number(s) and web address(es)/URL(S), along with your request to have the imposter account(s) deleted.

5. If you want to change your login information, please include what you would like your new email log in address and password to be. Please be sure that the email is not currently in use or associated with another MySpace profile. Once we receive this information, we will update your account for you.

Hope this helps,

Maureen

Will be staying off of MySpace until someone lets me know those 2 profiles have been deleted. Their running me around in circles makes me dizzy...

No, it is not an impostor, she's the "real deal". Unfortunately, MySpace is giving me the usual runaround....over and over and OVER.

:(

Also have had someone threaten to report me for sending a friends request....but if this person doesn't want strangers contacting her, she shouldn't allow just anyone to send her messages.

Ugh, I'm so sorry it's back, Canwill. Unfortunately, it only takes a few minutes for someone to create a new one. If you haven't already, let MySpace know at imposterreport@myspace.com. (We'll need you to go through the proper channels before we can intervene.)

Thanks,

Maureen
