Soundclick Abuse

Hi there, I am a bit new to all of this so please forgive me if it's in the wrong place. I am a member of a music comunnity website and around 10 months ago suffered harassment and abuse from another member via private messages and on my profile page. I reported this to the website absue team and had no response. A friend of mine also emailed them to complain about the same person with the same problem, as they too got the same treatment. The website finally gave a response to them that this was a "Personal Matter" and refused to get involved. Since then, this member has gone one to abuse other members of this site, both in public and in private in what I would call sometimes vicious attacts..and yes...still no action by the website.

My last dealings with this person were 10 months ago, the time of the last abuse from her. I have not spoken to this member since the abuse first started. Two days ago it has started again with my friend and it also included me being mentioned….and yeah...no response from the website. I want to know what I can do.

I have sent screen shots to the website, who claim under their terms and conditions that harassment will not be tolerated at any level, but they still won’t even acknowledge my emails. Any advice would be most grateful. The abuse varies from snide comments in blogs, on other members pages, always careful not to mention my name of course. To personal messages which although perhaps amount to nothing more than name calling in some instances, are threatening and abusive in others.

Frustrated and Harassed

Hi Maureen, thank you for the information, it was pretty much as I thought, but there was always hope wasn’t there. I am based in the UK, the site is in the US, and it’s unlikely that police here would be interested enough. I guess it’s time to look for another site, one that actually cares!

Thanks again

Welcome, and I'm sorry this is happening. We've had several posts on this forum about sites (not Soundclick) being unresponsive to users' concerns. If you think that’s the case (and it sounds like you do), I’d do what any dissatisfied customer does: stop using the company’s product/service. If the person starts cyberstalking you or threatens physical harm, you may have a case against her but would probably have to hire a lawyer to get a restraining order. You can also contact the police, but they may or may not take up the case, depending on their department's policies regarding online harassment. I'm sorry there's no magic answer here. Every site has different Terms (and policies for interpreting those Terms), so we consumers need to seek out spaces where we feel the most comfortable.

Best,
Maureen
